Disney has a ton of movies under its banner and its library continues to grow. With the original Disney movies, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars there's a lot to choose from. That's probably why Disney created the Disney Movie Club.

Disney Movie Club is it Worth it review details cancellation

What is Disney Movie Club?

The Disney Movie Club is a membership program that lets you purchase Disney movies at discounted prices. You receive a great deal on movies up front, but then you're committed to purchasing five movies at regular prices over the next two years.

Basically, it's a way to tap into the wide variety of Disney movies and hopefully save a few extra bucks along the way.

Disney Movie Club Membership

Membership works like this. You pay just $1 for four movies up front. Shipping is free.

By taking the deal, you agree to purchase five more DVDs at $19.95 per movie plus shipping & processing within the next two years. If you're doing Blu-rays, you need to pay $29.95 per Blu-ray plus shipping & processing.

It sounds like a great deal, but there's a catch.

About every four weeks, Disney will announce what it's Featured Title is. If you want it, then you don't do anything and Disney will ship it to you. If you don't want it, all you have to do is to cancel the shipment before it's shipped. I kind of think of it as a modern-day version of the Columbia House CD subscription service that was so popular in the 90s. Sometimes it's cool, sometimes it's a massive pain.

Once you've purchased the five required titles, your membership is at-will, meaning you can cancel at any time.

Disney Movie Club Membership Restrictions

Like all membership clubs, there are restrictions to membership.

  • You need to be at least 18-years-old to join.
  • You can only have one Disney Movie Club membership per household.
  • You need to live in the contiguous United States, which means if you live in Alaska or Hawaii, you can't take part.
  • Disney Movie Club is not able to ship to APOs or FPOs, so most military members will also be unable to join.
  • Sales tax may apply to certain states.

Disney Movie Club Login

When you first join the Disney Movie Club, you will receive a membership number.

You'll use that membership number to create your online account. You'll also need your five-digit shipping zip code.

After that, logging in is just like logging in to any other site.

You can find all the registration and login details here.

Disney Movie Club Promo Codes

There aren't a lot of promotions out there that offer a discount for the Disney Movie Club because the Disney Movie Club is in itself a discount.

In addition, in the fine print the Disney Movie Club says the offer of four DVDs or Blu-rays for $1 can't be combined with any other promotional offers including coupons and rebates.

That said, there are companies that claim to have coupon codes for the Disney Movie Club. Offers.com, Retail Me Not, Deals Plus, Coupon Chief, and Deal Catcher all claim to have promotions, but usually it's just a link to the exact same deal that you can find on the Disney Movie Club website to begin with.

Refer a Friend to Disney Movie Club

It's not a promo code, but I have seen reports that Disney will reward you if you refer a friend to the Disney Movie Club. I can't find confirmation on the Disney site, so I think they might have discontinued it now that the Disney+ is about to launch.

However, if it's still in action, the Disney Movie Club will give you two more free DVDs or Blu-rays when you refer a friend. That's a pretty good deal for sharing something with your friend that they'll probably want anyway.

Disney Movie Club Exclusives

One of the real benefits of the Disney Movie Club is access to the Disney vault. The Disney Movie Club has exclusive movies that are only available to the club. This is really beneficial for Disney fans that are feeling nostalgic.

Among the Disney Movie Club Exclusives, the movie Kidnapped, a 1960 adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel. Kidnapped starred Peter Finch as Alan Breck who departs on a "…thrilling quest on sea and land for a young man's rightful inheritance."

There's also Doug's 1st Movie, the big screen version of the popular 90s television cartoon.

There's a full list of the exclusive movies offered through the Disney Movie Club here.

How to Return Disney Movie Club DVDs

If you need to return a DVD that was damaged, incorrect or defective, Disney will let you do it free of charge. You must mail the DVD back to Disney Movie Club Returns and Exchanges, P.O. Box 8023, Menasha, WI 54957-8023. Once it's received, you'll receive a credit from Disney Movie Club.

For more details, you can visit Disney Customer Relations at www.DisneyStudioHelp.com.

How to Return a Disney Movie Club DVD You Don't Want

Disney will also let you return a DVD you simply aren't happy with, but it will cost you. You have 60 days from the day you order it to return to the DVD to the address listed above. You'll receive a merchandise credit less a $3.95 shipping and processing fee.

In both instances, you'll be asked to return it in the original packaging or a strong box and use packing tape to make sure the box or package is securely sealed.

Cancel Disney Movie Club

According to the fine print of the Disney Movie Club agreement, your satisfaction is "100% guaranteed!" But if you don't like it, you just have to return the movies within 10 days of receiving them along with a written notice, in other words a letter, explaining that you want to cancel the membership.

If you cancel within the timeframe, Disney Movie Club promises to refund your money including shipping and processing.

How to Cancel Disney Movie Club Membership After the 10 Days

If you wish to cancel the Disney Movie Club membership after the 10-day grace period, then you're allowed to after you fulfill the membership agreement. When you signed up, you agreed to purchase five movies at regular price. You'll need to purchase the remaining DVDs or Blu-rays to reach that five in order to cancel.

You can receive details about cancellation at this site here or by calling 1-800-362-4587. You can also write to the Disney Movie Club, P.O. Box 768 Neenah, WI 54957-0768.

Disney Movie Club Review

The Disney Movie Club doesn't say it, but it's really a club for people who really love all things Disney. If you're the kind of person that wants to have a large collection of Disney movies or prides yourself on having the latest and greatest Disney movies, then the Disney Movie Club is probably something that you want and need.

The access to the exclusive movies within the Disney Movie Club vault; the ability to buy the old stuff for either nostalgia reasons or simply to enhance your collection is what you're really buying when you join the Disney Movie Club.

Increased Rewards Through the Disney Movie Club

The really cool thing about the Disney Movie Club is that it doesn't stop you from reaping the rewards of other Disney programs. Every movie you buy comes with a Disney Movie Rewards code. When you enter the code into the Disney Movie Rewards, you receive points. When you gain enough points, they can be redeemed for other Disney items.

For example, 575 points will get you a $5 Disney gift card. 5,250 points will get you a D23 Gold Family Membership, which offers you other Disney rewards.

If you work the system right, the rewards start to stack up.

Is Disney Movie Club Worth It?

Now it's time to answer the most important question of all, is the Disney Movie Club worth it?

As explained above, it's going to depend on how big of a Disney fan you are.

If you do the math, four free DVDs for $1, plus five DVDs at $19.95 apiece plus shipping and handling is going to total more than $100. It's possible, depending on the titles you purchase, that you can get the same deal or better on a site like Amazon or eBay.

For example, a Disney classic like Cinderella, is going to cost you $19.95 whether you buy it through the Disney Club or on Amazon. What's more, it's currently available in the Disney Club, but not available on Amazon. However, if I want to buy a less popular movie like A Goofy Movie, I can choose to pay $19.95 through the Disney Movie Club, or $4.99 through Amazon and get free shipping to boot.

That's not even taking into account whether you'd be just as satisfied with a used or previously watched DVD.

Determining whether or not the Disney Movie Club is worth it is all going to depend on what kind of movie viewer/owner you are and how you plan to use the club to your advantage.

Update 2020: We love Disney plus around here and think you might want to consider that option too!
